Open Letter to My MP

Dear Shailesh
As a young man with my own business in 1983 I worked for the local conservative party and stood myself as a candidate for the District Council.
Since which time I have seen the Conservative party move progressively to the right, By the 1990s I stopped supporting the Conservatives and after yesterday’s revelation will actively work against them.

Todays Conservative party and the cabinet are far more diverse – yet the government is acting to prevent migrants from any source entering the UK.  This has been described as racism – necessary for the government to keep onboard the extreme right it relies on to remain in power. I am sure that you are not a racist nor would you like the public to think you were.

I have spoken before about the danger of having a liar at the head of the party as there is a tendency for their followers to be tainted by their lies. One would expect that MPs in high office would have a moral compass and a sense of what is proper, buy failing that there is a code of conduct and like it or not Johnson’s conduct is very easy to portray as breaching this code, not only for ‘party gate’ but his consistent use of inaccurate data to mislead the house.  We have met and I don’t think that you are a liar and I am sure you would not deliberately mislead the house – but your party leader is increasingly being seen as a liar.

I genuinely disgusted at the way the party has gone, I have recently reread Churchills account of the growth of fascism in Germany in the 1930s and I am seeing parallels not only  here in the UK but France and the US.  Are you prepared to give succour to the far right just to further your career?
Thatcher made the statement ‘Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith.’   I still think these are admirable objectives for any government to adhere to – do you believe that your government measures well against these criteria?

I am disgusted with this government and the way the current leadership has led the Conservatives.
I hope that you might consider these things when you are in the house.
